What is a GAE visa?

The Government Authorised Exchange visa is the most suitable route for non-UK nationals seeking work experience in the UK. It allows UK Employers the opportunity to offer internships to students and graduate recruits.

WE’RE UNIQUE

AIESEC Internships is one of only a few authorised UK business immigration programmes that can provide flexibility within the Temporary Worker - Government Authorised Exchange (GAE) category. We are able to sponsor candidates for up to 12 months at a time, and 24 months in total.

We can provide eligible candidates with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and will act as the sponsor on behalf of the employer.

The GAE visa also gives Employers the chance to assess a candidate's capabilities during the internship before offering them a more permanent position and sponsoring them under a Skilled Worker visa (formerly Tier 2).

1 - Check Your Eligibility

2 - Register Your Company

If you have never used our services before, you can register with us HERE and we will get in touch with you to further discuss your eligibility.
3 - Submit Your Application

Once you have registered with us, you can apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship HERE
4 - Pay the Fees

We only charge fees if the application is approved. Once we have approved and offered sponsorship, we will send our Terms of Service and invoice the employer. You can view our current fee structure in the next section of this page.
5 - Receive Certificate of Sponsorship

Once we have issued the Certificate of Sponsorship, your intern can proceed to apply for the visa. Information about the visa, including current fees and processing times can be found HERE

Eligibility

The Intern
- Must be above 18 years of age
- Must have a degree awarded within the last three years or be currently enrolled on a degree-level course (this should be a Bachelor, Master, or PhD. Qualifications and educational institutions must be recognised by UK ECCTIS.

The Role
- Must be full time (at least 35 hours per week) and meet the National Minimum Wage. Interns must be employed by a UK company directly and on their payroll, paid in GBP.
- Must be temporary (Maximum 12 months, minimum 4 weeks)
- Must be training-based and supernumerary (outside of the organisation's regular staffing requirements)
- Must be a skilled position (NVQ Level 3 or above) There may be a limit to how many interns a company can recruit depending on the size of the company.

- Must be a UK registered company, charity or government department
- Must be willing to take responsibility of sponsorship fees
- Must hold Employer’s Liability Insurance at £10m Limit of Indemnity and Public/Product Liability Insurance at £5m Limit of Indemnity
- Must be able to provide evidence of VAT or PAYE registration
- Must have the financial and personnel resources to support and supervise the Intern
- We cannot sponsor for sole traders or for the following industries: hospitality, care, agriculture, or law sectors.

To Consider
- In most cases the visa must be applied for from outside the UK.
- Those wishing to switch from Tier 4 to Tier 5 within the UK must have completed a UK bachelor’s or master’s degree during their last grant of leave
- Tier 4 to Tier 5 switches must be offered a role that is directly related to the degree awarded.
- Those wishing to apply for an extension to their current Tier 5 must show clear progression.
