What do you mean ‘work towards the Global Goals’?

‘There is no plan B because there is no planet B.’ – This is something that drives us in AIESEC.

  Rising sea levels. Global Warming.

  You hear these words everywhere.

  Why? Because it’s happening everywhere.

We’re at that point of time where we cannot ignore them anymore. Not just these, there are so many problems all around the world that we might not prevent unless we come together – not just government officials or Tech Giants. Everyone, especially the youth because the day will come when we will be in those positions and we need to tackle them, hand in hand.

Youth 4 Global Goals What is Sustainable Development? Sustainable development has been defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

What exactly are these ‘Goals’? In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it.

How many goals are there? What are they? The Global Goals It sounds too tough. What can I do? End extreme poverty. Fight inequality and injustice. Fix climate change. Whoa. The Global Goals are important, world-changing objectives that will require cooperation among governments, international organizations and world leaders. It seems impossible that the average person can make an impact. Should you just give up?

No! Change starts with you. Seriously. Every human on earth—even the most indifferent, the laziest person among us—is part of the solution. Fortunately, there are some super easy things we can adopt into our routines that, if we all do it, will make a big difference.

Y4GG What is AIESEC’s role in this? “Global Volunteer” is an opportunity for a young person to develop leadership qualities by living a cross-cultural volunteer experience. In the product a young person volunteers abroad on social impact projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. We believe in mobilising the youth to take concrete steps in achieving the goals that the UN has set. The motto of the goals is to “Leave no one behind”. Right now youth is an underrepresented group in the Global Agenda which impacts their lives in the next 13 years. Youth 4 Global Goals aims to activate every young person. However, before being able to act, we need to make youth aware of the reality of the world and the role the Global Goals have to improve it.

The more young people will be aware of the goals now, the bigger will be the ripple effect of positive impact by 2030.

AIESEC Global Goals UK How does AIESEC do this? We partner with academic institutions, civil society organizations, private sector and the government to provide to young people global volunteer experiences on projects contributing to the SDGs, through which young people develop themselves while impacting local communities and organizations.
