Why does AIESEC ask for payment when it does?
There are two reasons:
- This is, in fact, quite a standard procedure in this industry as well as many others. Think of going to a concert or buying a plane ticket - the concert might not run or the flight might be cancelled but you buy the ticket because you want to go and you trust that it will be an amazing concert or a successful flight. We believe that our 60 years of experience and reputation for delivering incredible opportunities around the world should give you the assurance you need to ensure that you have a fantastic experience.
- The question is, do you really want to go? Many people who register their interest are not really committed to going away and usually end up not taking advantage of the opportunity. We can separate those who are committed and those who are not at the payment stage. What this means is that we have to spend less time working with people who will never do an internship, which reduces our costs. If we were not to do this, we would have to charge everyone else higher prices to make up for the higher level of dropouts!
What happens if I don’t find an internship? What is the refund criteria?
Our Local Committee will do its best to help you find a suitable internship; we have an entire team dedicated to do this! However, in the event you do not find one, the refund criteria is outlined below (this will be in the online contract as well). The decision for a refund ultimately lies with the AIESEC National Office in London, and not the Local Committee
The administration
The total cost of participating in the Go Global Programme is a one off payment of £350, which covers the cost of administration up to the point that the form is raised on our global information system. The complete £350 fee (payable when the applicant submits their pack containing proof of their academic and working backgrounds and the signed contract) consists of:
- £200 non-refundable deposit. This covers basic administration costs such as computer software development; communications to applicants, host companies and host local committees; marketing materials; preparation seminar resources; and other administration costs.
- £150 placement fee. £5 of this is a contribution to the award for a conference place at the H4TF conference which you are eligible for dependent on the submission of a high quality internship evaluation form, to the AIESEC UK National office, when you return to the UK.
Refund criteria
The following criteria must be fulfilled by the participant in addition to those stated in the student contract and Statement of Understanding of AIESEC UK below.
- Subject to point 2 below, a refund of the placement fee, will be granted to an applicant for an internship where:
- The applicant has been entered into the AIESEC Database for a minimum of six months without being matched for a suitable internship; or
- The company/organisation with which the applicant is matched withdraws from the placement and no suitable alternative placement can be found;
- And the applicant makes a written application for the refund to AIESEC UK, 29-31 Cowper Street, London EC2A 4AT within one month of the applicant or the company withdrawing from the scheme stating:
- the full reason for the required refund;
- the date of the application; and
- the date, amount and method of payment to AIESEC UK.
- AIESEC reserves the right to withhold payment of a refund on fulfilment of the criteria above where:
- an applicant has rejected a match and AIESEC, at its sole discretion, decides that the match is in fact a suitable one, taking into account the requirements outlined by the applicant on their CV and preferences; or
- AIESEC, at its sole discretion, deems that the reason for there being no match is due to weaknesses in the applicant's form and the applicant has submitted the form after due warning by AIESEC of such weaknesses and the risk of the administration fee not being refunded. This is unless in respect of a) above, the applicant can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of AIESEC, that there are exceptional circumstances (see point 3) preventing him/her accepting the internship.
- The exceptional circumstances referred to in point 2 may include but are not limited to:
- Personal illness; or
- Family illness or bereavement.
